As A Single Older Millennial Woman, Does My Love Of The TV Show Workaholics Make Me A “Hypothetic”?

Right before the world went into a global pandemic lockdown, I was volunteering at a beer festival. As I was pouring beer (and who knows what else) to the masses, two men showed up dressed as ’80s rock stars for the event — complete with wigs, sunglasses, and bandanas. I couldn’t help but be attracted to the goofiness they brought to the occasion, their loose karaoke covers. Maybe they caught me looking, but the slightly intoxicated guys ended up coming over to the booth my friends and I were pouring at. I eyed the shorter one, who frequently shook his faux raven mane out of his eyes.

“We should go out,” he said, giving me his business card. He worked in corporate for a local grocery chain.

“Okay,” I said, taking his card and putting it in my purse that I had hidden behind the booth.

We continued to chitchat, mostly about beer and the event, when suddenly, out of nowhere, he asked, “Did I give you my business card?”

“Yeah,” I said with a laugh.

“Can I have it back?”

“. . .all right.” I ventured to my purse and retrieved it, handing it back to him with what had become an increasingly comfortable sense of defeat. Just weeks before, in an introductory…
